Cavedog 3.1

3.1 is the AI added to the final Cavedog patch of the same number. The first AI of Cavedog's, 1.0, was a rusher, but suffered resource problems. The AI's that came with the various version 2's were by far the best, but would build units like mobile radar, which the AI simply did not need or use. With 3.1 Cavedog had made a dreadful mistake and destroyed their AI.

This is not a rusher AI, but then again it's not a defensive one either. In fact this AI will just nano-stall so badly that it will not progress beyond it's first few solar panels before you have erradicated it's sorry behind from the face of the game world. It's almost as if it's trying it's hardest not to hurt you, and it carries out this task of complete peace very well.

Don't expect early attacks, if one starts on it's way before the 15th minute, it is a fluke. Most of the time it won't survive that long. A single raid against this AI can and will take it out of the game for good, it cannot cope with losing any resources.

When watching this AI for the first time you may think it's all construction strategy is similar to Mostly Harmless. Don't be fooled. Mostly Harmless will expand and further expansion through resources, but 3.1 will build so many metal makers it cripples first it's energy, then as this shuts down all it's extractors, its metal economy too. Just to finish itself off it will build hundreds of plants that it simply cannot afford to support.

Even if the AI should launch an assault at you, it will be made up of pretty much one of everything. It doesn't pick which troops would be most effective, and which are useless, so expect to see fleas throwing themselves at you with alarming regularity.

The only danger this AI will ever pose to you, is the danger of you dying laughing. But this is a pretty sick joke.
